Jack Dash is a child of the fifties and grew up with a good clip round the ear from parents, teachers, and coppers alike – as did most kids of the time. He escaped from home at fifteen when he had to travel forty miles to college because he lived on the wrong side of the county border from the one a mile down the road. After college he took a degree in Computer Science and the first computer he worked on filled a room the size of bungalow, had 4k of memory and no disk space whatsoever – those were the days. He worked as a programmer for a number of years, until his boss decided to fire all the software people and use contractors instead. Jack was in two minds what to do with his redundancy money, use it set up his own software company or buy shares in a little company called Microsoft – which was just going public at the time. With his unfailing instinct for a good bet … he set up his own business. He did okay for a few years but, admittedly, not quite as well as if he had bought the shares instead. However, he did come up with a concept that would allow people to do their shopping on-line and he was all set to patent the idea but then he had a change of heart, he decided it would never catch on and canned the project – just before the Internet took off. At this point, Jack decided that being an entrepreneur was not all it was cracked up to be and decided to become a writer instead. After working as a copy-writer and technical author for some time, Jack is making his first foray into the world of science fiction with his Edge of Destiny trilogy.

I am a writer of Fantasy, Speculative Fiction and Magic Realism who often uses comedy and absurdism to examine philosophical issues. I am known for my original ideas, intricate plots and entertaining wordplay! I write short stories, novellas and novels. I have been a writer from an early age. I completed my first proper short story when I was 14. It was called 'The Journey of Mountain Hawk' and I still remember what it was about, even though it no longer exists. None of my early work exists. My earliest surviving short story dates from 1989, and since that time I have embarked on an ambitious project of writing a story cycle consisting of exactly 1000 linked tales. Recently I decided to give this cycle an overall name -- PANDORA'S BLUFF. My main influences are writers such as Italo Calvino, Stanislaw Lem, Boris Vian, Flann O'Brien, Jack Vance and Jorge Luis Borges, all of whom have a very well-developed sense of irony and a powerful imagination. I love irony and satire, not only the 'negative' kind that seeks to undermine some form of injustice but also the 'positive' kind that takes sheer delight in its own playfulness. And yet I am also fully committed to engaging with serious themes. In fact, many years ago, I decided that I should find my own name for the style of writing I like best and the name I came up with was: "Romanti-Cynicism." The main idea behind this new genre is to combine humour and seriousness, to fuse the emotional with the intellectual, the profound with the lighthearted, the unfettered with the precise. My first book was published in 1995 and sold slowly but it seemed to strike a chord with some people. My second, third, fourth, etc, books sold much more strongly as my reputation increased. I have been told that I am a "cult author" and I'm pleased with the description, but obviously I also want to reach out to a wider audience! My twentieth book has just been published and I have many new books due to be released in the next two years.

I used to be cute once! Now I'm 56 and I live in Thailand. I've had an odd and varied life. This is the first full-length novel I've attempted, and I hope it won't be the last. The one lesson I've learned from this is not to trust your characters. They really live. Let me quickly tell you the story of Doris, Logan's Mom. She started life in the first draft as a man. He simply answered the telephone, put the call from Mike through to Ronald McMurtry and exited the story. Then he demanded a larger part. Soon he became Doris, and had a speaking role. When Mike decided he wanted to talk to McMurtry, he went to the office and found Doris. I did not write her into that role, show wrote herself. Mike had to go back, re-write where he bought a bunch of flowers and meet her again. She did appreciate the flowers. After a bit, I found she had a 'son', and the character of Logan was born. He was not in the original draft at all. From that moment on, Logan's own role became central. You've read the result. However, I swear Doris and Logan wrote themselves into the book. It was not my doing. The characters live. They really do, and they grow with the story. I loved that. You may find some of them re-appear in later books. I have a story to write about Logan, if he'll let me, and by popular demand, there's the life of Tom in 33AD. He has a lot of travel to undertake despite the fact he's an old man.

At five years old, Tess was walking down a gravel path and saw that one of the rocks had been kicked away into the grass, all alone. She was instantly upset, cradled the poor rock in her hands and returned it to it’s family of fellow rocks. She told me a story then, of how the rock had come to be all alone, complete with romance, intrigue, and betrayal. She was never without a book. And had read the complete Lord of the Rings Trilogy four times before the age of thirteen. It is with this kind of imagination, passion, and love for stories, that Tess now writes her young adult fantasy novels. She began writing her first novel, Ember, at age sixteen and hasn’t stopped since.
