Rain's Fairy Tale by A.D. Williams Rain's Fairy Tale by A.D. Williams Feb. 07, 2012 $4.49 75149 words Sample 15%
Author bio:
Being born and raised in the beautiful though gloomy Pacific Northwest, her writing tends to reflect the mood of one who spent too much time daydreaming out rainy day windowsills. A.D. Williams began writing free verse poetry when I was twelve as an outlet for early onset teenage angst, wrote the first draft her first novel at age 15, but when it was stolen a year later, she lost her taste for writing. In 2005, Williams picked up the pen again and was reminded of the therapeutic value of putting words on paper. After finding the first few poems flowed out fairly smoothly, she set out to create something of a story that had been tugging at her for years. From there the first draft of Rain's Fairy Tale sat collecting dust through years of diaper changes and PB&J lunches. When the youngest of her three "monkeys" started school she decided it was time to get back to writing. A.D.'s writing is done now in the sills and city parks of Lincoln Nebraska, where she can be found daydreaming with pen and notebook in hand.

As a kid my imagination was molded by the likes of Enid Blyton and the heroes of Marvel and DC Comics. Fast forward to modern day, and it seems those books and characters had a stronger grip on me than I initially thought. Writing gives me the ability to delve into characters and worlds that would typically be closed off to me in my normal life. An Avid sports fan and music aficionado. I tend to gravitate towards anything that involves creativity. Of late photography seems to have piqued my interest also.

Hello from England. This is a little bit about me, thanks for stopping by! Despite a reprimand by an English Teacher at school for having 'a little too much imagination' I continued to enjoy writing stories. I wrote my first novel length book in the mid-nineties and continued to write half a dozen more that gathered dust until I published one of them in 2009. I simply write what is there and watch the characters grow, it's as long or short as it needs to be to tell that particular tale. The 'themes' to my stories may vary considerably but they tend to all be driven by colourful characters in different scenarios. As Stephen King said: "The object of fiction isn’t grammatical correctness but to make the reader welcome and then tell a story." That sums up my approach really, I hope people like my work of course but never try to target a particular audience or chase a trend. The digital age means that creative artists can get their work out without fitting into neat boxes for huge organisations. Creative work of any kind should in my opinion be judged on it's merits by each individual who engages with it, not by mass promotion or hype. I also try to make a short promo film for each book so feel free to check those out on the book page or at my website!

Wayne C. Long is an unusually gifted electronic short story teller. His love for and mastery of this delicious and powerful art form puts him right up there with the best! Having written all his life, whether as a copy writer in the business world or as a writer of edgy short fiction in the digital world, he does one thing particularly well: he mines the edges of human experience for those powerful ideas that no one is tapping into. He visualizes onto the page what other writers overlook, using his cinematically-trained mind’s eye. He distills down the creative essence of the short story, to where less is more. Wayne’s work has appeared in QST magazine where its international readership voted to honor him with the coveted QST Cover Plaque Award two years in a row. Wayne’s short fiction continues to enchant global readers in The DX Magazine. He has also written for the Wisconsin Writers’ Journal and is known throughout the blogosphere. For over four years now, his Web site LongShortStories has been his writing home. There, Wayne markets his latest short stories direct to his enthusiastic global audience via e-mail subscription, transmitting a new story in PDF format every 12 days. He offers prospective subscribers single stories via his pay-per-view store, as well as two free sample stories. In addition, Wayne fosters the short story form by hosting two LongShortStories Short Story Contests annually. On the pages of his blog at www.LongShortStories.com/wayne/, he teaches and engages readers in the art of short story writing. Wayne C. Long is a graduate of Northern Illinois University and his wife, Diane, is also an N.I.U. graduate. They recently built a home on a hill overlooking the headwaters of the Milwaukee River as it meanders into a charming century-old millpond occupied by hundreds of Canada geese. Wayne and Diane are proud of their two married children (a daughter and a son), one very special granddaughter and a brand-new grandson.

I have been writing on and off since I was a shy lad hiding under the bed and scribbling in an out of date diary (I think it was about my space travels). Most of my works have been either plays populated with grotesques who stumble around ruins and those odd places we forget about or epic tales of those last Roman legionaries as they falter and fall at the end of Empire. Over the last three years, I have embarked on a series of plays which I have entitled 'The Ostraka Plays' and in which I am exploring that space where the irrational and the seductive collide. I remain fascinated by a poetics which allows an imagination to populate a forgotten nook in history outside our conventions and expectations. In these plays, the audience is invited into worlds which remain provisional and insecure - and where freedom is that release from convention. The other side of my writings could not be more opposite - in these stories, the dying light of Rome flutters one last desperate time as I seek to follow the last of the Eagles down into their fates. Here, archaeological record, literary fragments, and my own invention intertwine to set a stage ripe for heroics and betrayal.

My name is Tor Richardson. Welcome to my Smashwords site. If you’ve landed on this page, you’d probably like to know a little about me. Okay, I was born in Seattle. I’ve traveled up and down the west coast, but still like Seattle quite a bit. I don’t actually live in the city, but I’m close enough to see it out the window. Along with the mountains. We have a lot of mountain in this neck of the woods. Water, too. (And, don’t forget the rain.) Unlike most other writers, I don’t have a pet cat. My family had a very independent tomcat when I was a kid. I once saw him drop down from a tree onto the back of a dog who wandered into our backyard by mistake. (Boy, what a mistake!) He rode that black lab like a cowboy, using his claws as spurs and slapping the dog on the head as they went yowling up the road. Since then, I’ve never really thought of a cat as a house pet. Cats like that need lots of room. I’ve always enjoyed story. I managed to sneak a creative writing class past my parents while at college (engineering majors aren’t supposed to take those kinds of classes). Unfortunately, that experience didn’t pan out. In hindsight, I’m not quite sure about that class. It certainly wasn’t writing, and it was far from creative. (I remember a vampire story I wrote for an assignment in 1981, as well as the ridicule it received. The instructor insisted that nobody would ever be interested in vampire stories. She pretty much demanded that I burn it and try again.) The experience was enough to keep me away from writing for a number of years (openly, at least). But… once a storyteller, always a storyteller. In time, the writing came back with a vengeance. I was finally able to make the transition to a full-time fiction writer. Now, I enjoy coming to work every day. Telling new stories and creating new worlds is much more fun than trying to make sense of the one we’ve got. And meeting the people who enjoy those stories is a lot of fun, too. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy your look around. - Tor

I'm an avid reader and love to write. I am married with two boys and reside in Minnesota. Some of my favorite authors are Stephen King,Dean Koontz, James Patterson, Peter Straub, Suzanne Collins, J.K. Rowling, Thomas Harris, Dan Brown, Cormac McCarthy, and many many more. I'm willing to read any author who has a great idea and is able to express his ideas in a way I can relate(at least with the characters) and understand clearly. I revise constanly and still don't end up satified, but i guess that is something that will come in time, hopefully. I hope you enjoy my stories as much as I enjoy writing them. I am currently working on a novel, but I will try to upload new short stories from time to time, mostly free to read. I believe if I'm going to charge anything it should be at least 4,000 words or more. A lot of the stories I post are old and had been written years ago, but I think they still have good potential (After endless revising and I know they're still not perfect). Thanks for your time. Matt
